Newsreels were produced between 1991 and 2003. Video news from around the Triratna (then known as FWBO or TBMSG in India) world, and shown in Sangha gatherings as a way of connecting and unifying our movement.
Newsreel 1 (1991)
Released in Autumn 1991, this first edition looks back over the previous six months, which reports on: the first death anniversary of Dhardo Rimpoche, FWBO Day in Manchester, Sangharakshita in Germany, The Karuna Trust, Finland, Valencia, Windhorse Trading, India, Auckland, Wellington, Earthworks in Manchester, ordinations at Guhyaloka, Taraloka and Padmaloka and a special feature on FWBO Essen in Germany. NEWSREEL 2 looks back on events in the FWBO/TBMSG from August 1991 to February 1992 with reports on: Melbourne, Sydney, the WBO convention, the launch of Facing Mount Kanchenjunga, major changes at the Croydon Buddhist Centre, an ordination at Taraloka, and a special feature on Sangharakshita’s January tour of India. NEWSREEL 3 looks back on the events in FWBO/TBMSG from March to August 1992 with reports on: the 25th birthday celebrations of the FWBO, Ordinations in India and Guhyaloka, developments at Sarnath, Auckland, the Glastonbury Festival, Manchester, Taraloka, Dr. Ambedkar celebrations in London, the three peaks sponsored walk and Aryaloka in America. Newsreel 12 (1996/7)
In addition to covering events from September 1996 to March 1997 Newsreel 12 celebrates 30 years of the FWBO/TBMSG. The items include new activities in Paris, the inauguration of Dhardo Rimpoche’s ashes at Tararu in New Zealand, Sangharakshita’s visit to New Zealand, a substantial feature on the activities around the London Buddhist Centre and the London Buddhist Arts Centre, Devamitra in Singapore, as well as greetings from Padmaloka, Taraloka, Manchester, Germany, Sweden, India, Mexico, USA, Australia and more. Newsreel 13 (1997)
NEWSREEL 13 looks back on events in the FWBO/TBMSG from March 1997 to September 1997 and features the 1997 Western Buddhist Order Convention. Items include the openings of Centres in Bristol, Minden and San Francisco; women’s ordinations in the UK; men’s ordinations in India and in Seattle; the first Dhammamitra Convention in India; the changes recently at the Karuna Trust; the 21st Anniversary of Padmaloka Men’s Retreat Centre; and spreading the Dharma in Scotland.
